Coal Miner and I just got back from our honeymoon. Yea, I got married up while I've been on this little blog hiatus. It was pretty awesome. We were in Cabo. I'd like to go back. Like now. But I guess I need to work to pay the bills to go back to Cabo huh?
At any rate, while we were honeymooning we had some of the best discussions. One of my favorites was about his time as a single guy and how the ladies he met behaved within the first 4 hours of meeting him.
I hear time and time again that ladies in the DC area can't figure out why they can't find a good guy or why they are still single. After listening to Coal Miner's stories (and a new little gem of a story from one of his friends this weekend) it really isn't all that hard to understand. Young women these days are a skank fest. Let's begin with some examples (you KNOW I love providing real life examples).
Coal Miner used to frequent Union Jacks in ARL quite often. Apparently this place has been dubbed "the bar to find whores" (dubbed by me of course) due to the numerous stories I've been told about ladies shamelessly throwing themselves at men.
For instance, Coal Miner informed me that one time, while standing at the bar, minding his own business, a young lady walked up to him and grabbed his junk. She stood there with her hand over his junk, and asked him if he was going to buy her a drink. She then proceeded to rub his junk while she drank her beer and then asked Coal Miner if he was planning to take her home or what. He, of course, could not refuse such an easy offer so he obliged, took the young lady home, did the deed, and left. Wow.
Another story I was told was from this weekend. One of Coal Miner's friends was at Union Jacks (surprise!) and a young lady started chatting it up with him. She was all flirty and rubby McRubberson, dirty dancing, getting wasted, you know the deal. Then she introduced him to her roommate. Her roommate began to get tipsy and rub his friends junk and look over at her roommate and make all "yay" type faces. He was convinced he was getting a menag out of the situation. Closing time - the first girl invites him back to their place. He does the deed with the first girl, while the other girl is in the shower. He then exits the apartment, gets downstairs, and the other girl yells out the window for him to come back upstairs. When he does, she is there, naked, hops on him and starts making out with him, giving him a handy, doing a beejee. Wow.
So ladies, let me just give you a quick tip from the non-whore handbook. If you really do want to find someone to be with, and aren't interested in being a skank, stop acting like a skank. Stop sleeping with guys within the first 4 hours of meeting them. Stop giving them bj's within the first 4 hours of meeting them. For God's sake just stop! You give all of us a bad name. And quite honestly I would have no interest in having a relationship with you if you blew me on the first date or had sex with me on the first date. Stop being a skank and you may just find that guys want you even more. Worked on Coal Miner, and from what I hear, works on most other guys as well. True story, based on facts.

Birthday Treats
Yep, it was my birthday last Tuesday, the big 3-Oh. But don't worry, I'm all going 29 v2.0 on people's tail and plan on doing that for a while. Nah, just kidding. I could care less that I turned 30. I'm embracing the ole 30's. For serious, my 20's kind of sucked the big one (besides meeting Coal Miner) so I'm looking forward to what my 30's will hold. I just bought a house, Coal Miner moved in, we are supposedly getting hitched (read, where is my ring bih?!?!?!), so it should definitely be interesting.
As a side note, Coal Miner threw me two, read that 2!, surprise parties. One HH w/all of my DC peeps and then one dinner with all of my 757 peeps. Best of both worlds, can't complain!
Pic from the HH - he's the best...

Which leads us to Coal Miner's birthday in October. He will also be the big 3-0 and will no longer be able to call me "an old hag", the f'er. Last night while laying in bed, drifting off to sleep, he says "I know what I want for my birthday." I really don't care b/c I already know what I'm going to get him so I entertain him and ask "Oh yea? So what do you want Birthday Boy?" And he says, with gusto, "a hole in one!" I laugh and let him know that just b/c he has been drinking his face off at Top Golf recently I find it highly unlikely that he will be getting a hole in one anytime soon. He laughs and says "No you old hag. I mean I want to do it in the butt."
I flip on the light, sit straight up in bed, and exclaim "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?" all in a matter of seconds.
I know, I know I shouldn't be discussing this with you. But I mean seriously now. Who says that at 11:26pm, on a Monday, when I'm trying to get myself to sleep before I need to wake up 6 hours later to go to work? Could we have saved this for a discussion over a glass or 4 of wine? Apparently not, apparently he wanted to discuss it right at that moment. He also didn't seem to find anything wrong with what he had just asked either. He didn't seem to think I should bat an eyelash at such a request.
Back when I was 23 I probably wouldn't have. No I'm serious. I probably would have been like "Awesome. Hope you have some good lube." Maybe I am turning into an old hag. But I just don't know that I want his pein shoved in my tail pipe. Again, shouldn't be sharing, but homeboy ain't small. This could possibly lead to a very painful and damaging experience. I'm sharing too much, I realize this, but hell you guys love the sharing, I know you do. I figure Coal Miner and our sexual endeavors should probably be off limits right? Yea, yea, just don't share with him that I told you okay?
Anyway, I neither said yes or no last night. I just laughed it off after my immediate outburst. But I then laid in bed awake thinking "October 16, you need to just hold off for a little bit. Okay friend?"

Bleh

So Coal Miner purchased a home with his ex a few years back. Said home was purchased with her $25K down from a condo she bought with her previous ex (yep I said that snarky). They then entered into an IO (aka Interest Only) loan on their first trust, and a 10/1 ARM on their second. For those of you who aren't familiar with mortgage loans and what that means, let me break it down for you. THEY STILL OWE EVERYTHING THEY BORROWED. And when the ARM kicks in 6 short years, they will probably have a 15% interest rate instead of the 6.5% they currently have.
Problem No. 1 - The house is worth almost $100K less than what they paid for it originally.
Problem No. 2 - The slunt refuses to sell the house and take a cash hit due to the fact that she hasn't saved a dime of money over the past four years even though Coal Miner has given her a portion of his tax return yearly (to the tune of $4k - $5K) and she has renters living in the house covering the other portion of the mortgage.
Problem No. 3 - The slunt refuses to refi Coal Miner out of the loan b/c she doesn't "want the house either. You aren't getting out of this if I'm not getting out of it. " said all bitchy and condescending
Problem No. 4 - The slunt is in complete and utter denial. She thinks that they will definitely recoup the money from the house, and she will even go as far to say that she believes she will be able to make a profit. "I mean the housing market up here is totally on the up tick. I think we are about to see 2006 prices again!" yes...that is a direct quote
Problem No. 5 - The slunt may not be the sharpest tool in the shed. And I'm not just saying this b/c she is his ex. She really isn't a smart girl. She works for essentially the same mortgage giant that I do (she works for our "little brother" company) and knows nothing about the current housing market, interest rates, how credit works, new legislation around housing programs, government sponsored housing programs, etc. She's a Senior Financial Analyst for God's sake. What exactly are you analyzing over there sista friend?
Problem No. 6 - The slunt has no idea what she wants to do with her life or the house for that matter. Last time Coal Miner was over there (with the appraiser I arranged) she told Coal Miner that she was going to use her pension to live off of, while she went to Nursing School, and trained to be a Firefighter, in Costa Rica. *I'm actually laughing right now as I type that* Does that sound like a sane person to you? Who even says that? You can't start extracting from your pension at 31 years old, let alone live in Costa Rica when you don't speak a lick of Spanish. Bish you never even been to Costa Rica! But you know she "doesn't care about material things." Really is that why you just bought a brand new car and are carrying a Fendi bag?
Problem No. 7 - Her new boyfriend's name is Andrew. Andrew lives in the house. <-- This isn't really a problem, its just strange, and weird, and well strange and weird. So as you can see its a bit of a cluster eff. I just purchased a home, under my own name, and Coal Miner is paying me "rent" until we get rid of the other house. I just don't know how we are ever going to get rid of the damn thing. She's totally a vindictive slunt too, so I bet she finds out we are getting married and I am planning a wedding (with our own funds) so she'll decide that its the PERFECT time to sell, so we'll have to postpone the wedding a shell out $50K for their dumba$ hasty decision. Frustration is my middle name today. I knew this when I met him (he told me on the first date). I knew this when I fell in love with him (he reminded me yet again of his baggage). I knew this when I decided I wanted to marry him and spend the rest of my life with him (he asked me if I was sure I wanted this baggage to stay with us in our marriage). I knew this...I knew..and I don't know, last night I got all upset about it. All weepy, all annoying. I feel bad for Coal Miner. He was just doing what she said was a good idea, and he thought was a good idea at the time. What a costly mistake and costly lesson to learn. Not to mention a heavy weight to carry around constantly. I know it could be a lot worse. I know that...I'm just trying to wrap my head around this giant mortgage and what it means for our financial future. I'm attempting to be understanding and calm, cool, and collected. Its just hard for me to see past this right now. No one seems to have a really good answer, or a non-huge amount of cash dropping way to get ourselves out of this mess either. So I guess I just sit and wait huh? *le sigh* Oh a btw slunt I know you lied on your resume and you never graduated from Mason...and I also happen to know the VP of HR over at your company so imma keep that one close to me until I need to go all ghetto on your tail.

Wrote a song bout, like to hear, here it go
Have you heard those annoying Jerry's Subs commercials on the radio? I swear to the heavens above they are like nails on a chalkboard for me. I can't handle them. Stupid Sarah Palin and Bill Clinton and Obama impersonations. I can't change the channel fast enough when they start airing. Perhaps I should look into that satellite radio after all. Or maybe I should just stop being so lazy and grab my ipod before I head out in the morning. Seriously though, sh*t isn't funny so please get a new steeze Jerry's, thanks.
So I received this job offer last week (or maybe it was the week before, my God all of my weeks are running together). So we go through this whole process of negotiating back and forth and what not and I finally accept their offer and then they rescind my offer b/c of my start date...which was 5 days after the date they wanted. Seriously? No, seriously? I finally thought I had a chance of escaping Hades Haven, but I was incorrect. Being that Lucifer himself is in charge I don't know how I thought that to be possible.
I'm contemplating driving home this weekend, but its SUCH A DRAG. A few hours in a car by yourself is nice. You relax, you sing, you talk to yourself, its just silent...and that's nice, no buzz of fluorescent lights, no tapping of keyboards, and no constant freeway noise b/c well you ARE the freeway noise. But 7 hours in a car by yourself, in traffic none the less, is like sitting through a Yani concert. I mean you literally want to just get out and walk. Plus the drive back to DC you are just waiting for that moment when the little traffic line turns from green, to yellow, to the dreaded red on your GPS. I have such a love/hate relationship with the 757. I love the beach and I miss my family and friends, but it just isn't a quick trip during the summer months and it seems to rain/be cloudy on the weekends I'm there to bronze the crap out of my body. What gives 757, huh?
I'm dumping my thoughts, is that obvious or what? Work was totally manageable this week, that was NIIICCEEE. I haven't had a manageable week in months. I left at like 5 yesterday and I thought I actually started looking behind me to see if anyone was watching. Oh then I had the chance to go running in the pouring rain and it was fantabulous. I was muddy and drenched, ahhh it was wonderful.
I need a new hobby, any ideas? I was thinking sky diving or rock climbing or ANYTHING. I'm so fugging bored. I need something to do and I'm sick of spending money on food and drinks, that's only making me fat [or at least have a complex that I'm fat]. And don't you dare say scrap booking. I'm not from Wisconsin, nor am I overweight, married, or friend-less. I just need something to do in my spare time besides running. I could get a dog, but that's a lot of work. LIKE A LOT. Maybe a cat? Litter box, where would I put it? I need suggestions, HEEELLLPPPP.

Spring Cleaning
HOME: Let's start with my closet which is filled with shoes I don't wear, clothes I don't like, and bags I never use. What is my deal with keeping "things"? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm great about throwing away, so much so that I'll curse myself a month later after I realize that I've thrown something out that I need, lol. Okay so I'll start there with not just summer clothes, but the winter duds as well.
WORK: As we all know my jobbie job is constantly seen as a point of spiraling in my life. Some days are awesome, some days are rancid, some days are bleh. Unfortunately, most of the days are rancid. I love what I do, I love the mission of what I'm doing, but the people I work with can be unbearable at times. My organization is solely faced on the upward ladder and people here could care less about the mission and would rather just stab you in the back, throw you under the bus, or whatever else they can do to get ahead. Not to mention the "we own you" mentality. For instance they wanted me to reschedule my vacation (that had been planned for a year) to stick around for some silly implementation. Ummm, if I were a VP I'd be all over that, but alas, I'm not, so NO WAY JOSE. So I'll just keep the "search" alive and hope for the best.
"FRIENDS": I've always said that if the relationship is one sided I see no point in putting in so much effort. Specifically if you want to be friends with me and you covet our friendship so much, you'll make just as much effort as I do, correct? Right now that isn't the case. So if I'm the only one who calls you, or initiates emails, or tries to plan things with you and you are the one who doesn't pick up, respond to my emails, or is always busy...you are the one I'm talking about friend. Or how about the folks who don't need anyone but their significant other. I find that hilarious. What are these people going to do if they break up, get divorced, or lose them (God forbid). Are you just going to expect people to be around to "dust you off and help you up?" Come on folks, grow up, be your own person, there's a lot of world out there beyond the one in which you live. So I'm going to have to just leave some folks alone and see if they come around sooner or later.
Housing/Location: Should I move to FL, should I not? Should I buy a house here, should I not? Should I live by myself, should I not? Should I live in the city, should I stick to the suburbs. Maaan, the choices are just endless. I've decided this is my plan. I leave the next 6 - 9 months for me to make a decision on whether or not I move to FL. During this time I'll continue to apply for jobs and keep the dream a live. If all doesn't work out in the next 6 - 9 then I will buy a place here, hopefully in the city. Sound like a plan? Sounds good to moi.
Have I missed anything? Oh lawrd I hope not.

Ah the truth...
Last night I was watching the "Moment of Truth" show on Fox. Its actually a pretty disturbing show. Not because people are trying not to lie in order to win money, but because people are so deep in their lies and so unable to be truthful with those they love that they have to go on national television and use the excuse of trying to win money as their way to spill the truth. I wonder sometimes if all of our lives are nothing but a series of lies with the truth spilling out every now and then. So I decided today that I was going to talk about the truth and whether or not its always necessary to give the most honest answer.
I know sometimes people don't think that individuals should be spared of their feelings. I know I used to feel this way. Spill it all out and let them feel the pain of the truth, its the only way to find resolution. But today, and perhaps this is because of my current emotional status, I don't necessarily know that this is the right way to do things. Was it absolutely necessary for the lady on "Moment of Truth" last night to admit before a studio audience, her husband and family, and the entire United Sates of America that she would dump him for her ex-boyfriend, she has slept with other men, and sometimes she takes her ring off to appear single when she is out with her friends? Perhaps it was, but maybe she could have spared some of the details. Spared him the embarrassment, spared her family the embarrassment, spared his heart which was clearly braking in front of everyone. I think we get so wrapped up in our own lives sometimes that we forget who we are hurting. In order to make ourselves feel better we hurt those around us. I guess its makes us feel powerful. Or maybe its just easier, I'm not sure.
This weekend I went out and ran into on my of my acquaintances (who is married) clearly spending the evening with an individual who was not their spouse. Of course, its not my place to say anything to their spouse about this run-in, but it makes me wonder. Whose responsibility is it? I know they've had some issues in the past with infidelity but I was under the impression this had passed and the relationship was on the mend. Clearly I was wrong. The truth would only hurt the person so I'll just continue to hide my sympathy for this person with a smile. But it made me wonder, are we all susceptible to this? Does this happen more than I realize? Are we just a nation of lying infidels?
This weekend was particularly hard for me. I ran into someone cheating on their spouse, I had another individual say to me "I wish I wouldn't have brought [insert name]. Do you know how much [insert bad word about female genitalia] is here?" and then a lady told the person I was with that she wanted to show him her tits and have sex with him. This then turned into a huge argument which ended badly and we are still not speaking because of it. Infidelity at its finest...all based on lies....which will all become even bigger lies in the future...which will all lead to someone sitting in chair on "Moment of Truth" on Fox Mondays. I don't want to be in that chair nor do I want to be on the receiving end of that chair.

I'm sorry I thought this was my life?!?!
Ah yes, you knew the start of a new paragraph was coming didn't you? Apparently I'm so caught up in this situation that I'm not really thinking clearly. Because I'm not thinking clearly individuals are starting to question my ability to make sane decisions. Apparently the best idea would be for me to move 500 miles away, leaving my really good job with a fantastic company, my extremely loving boyfriend, and the network of individuals I've grown to call my friends (as you know I've had some problems establishing a good network of friends here). Apparently my mind is very clouded and unable to decipher between fiction and reality. See, my life is fiction. I live in a world where things are going well, but in reality they are not. Where my relationship makes me happy, when in reality it makes everyone around me miserable. Where my family is my circle of trust, but really I'm pushing them away. Where I attempt to be understanding of a cultural difference and supportive of baby steps, but really I'm just a push over. Where I am not rushing into anything b/c I've seen what that can do to a marriage and a family, when really I'm making excuses. Where I belive what I'm told, when really I'm just being fed lies. Isn't it enlightening when someone lets you in on all of these little secrets? All of this time I've been in the dark and I didn't even have the slightest idea.
So thank you, thank you for shedding some light on my relationship and my life, it truly is wonderful. But I wonder, isn't it strange that you think you know so much about me and what I want and my life here, when you've only come here once or twice. Doesn't that seem a little forward of you to assume such things? I mean I can only speak from experience, but when someone says they aren't ready...they aren't ready. Perhaps before when they said they thought they were it was b/c they were told that this was the right thing, and the way to go, the way it was supposed to happen and I was just settling...I don't know, seems like maybe everyone should take a step back and ask themselves "Am I really worried about Megan's happiness or am I more worried about what would make me and the family happy?" "Am I really looking out for her best interest or am I pushing my thoughts of happiness onto her, even though she may not share the same views?" "Am I really trying to be part of Megan's life or am I viewing this from 10,000 feet without even attempting to get a little closer?" Seems to me if we don't start to see eye-to-eye on this, it could mean then end of an era, don't you?

Truth be Told...
Just to give you a little background this woman is so wise. So wise that there are days I find myself drawn to her desk just to sit with her, even if for just a moment, just to revel in her knowledge and her rosy aspect on life. But today, I saw gloom in her eyes...this saddened me. I asked her what was wrong and she said to me "I'm not going to be one of those people who tells you to wait to get married because you have a lot of time. I'm not going to tell you that because people used to tell me that and look at me now. I'm 40, I have no prospects, and I'm sad....I'm really sad." I just stared in amazement. I didn't realize she was unhappy, I didn't realize she was desperately looking for her mate, I didn't realize that she was essentially living vicariously through me just waiting for that moment I came into the office flashing a diamond on my left hand. Though she is sad, she gave me the most amazing advice this morning.
She state (verbatim) "To men, women are like buses. There will always be another one coming through, they can always catch another one at a later day. But to us, to women, this is not the case. We accept men for who they are, for the bad, for the good, and when we find one, we say "let's just do this, let's just take a chance". Men, they think there will always be something better or comparable to come along. But what if there isn't, what if you miss your bus? But maybe we need to start behaving like men. When men aren't ready they just aren't ready and they don't fool with the ones who are. When they are ready, they are ready, and don't fool with the ones that aren't. So if we behave this way we can't lose, we'll definitely find our mate. Megan, you aren't getting any younger. Before you know it you'll be 35 years old wondering "what the hell happened? why did i spend so much time with this asshole?" and I don't want that for you. Make him decide. Make him decide does he want the package or does he want the situation? Men want things to be so neat and tidy and to happen at the exact right time. Well guess what, there isn't a right time and there never will be. So does he want you, the package, or does he want the situation, the right time. Make him decide...make him decide...." And with that, I walked away more at ease and more confused than ever...."make him decide....make him decide" it just keeps playing over and over again in my head. This wise woman is so right, yet she has told me something that is so hard to digest....make him decide.....

Rushing to the Altar
Is it just me, or if you are single, don't you feel like the first question out of everyone's mouth is "So when are you getting married?" And the second question is "Don't you want to get married?" Are you people serious? Yea I get it, I've been dating someone for a while it’s the next "logical" step, but is it? How exactly is it "logical" to do such a thing? I was under the impression that getting married was about wanting to be with someone for the rest of your life. I thought it was about love, compromise, affection, companionship, essentially a business venture, not just about "Hey, we have been dating for a while, why don't we get married?" I don't know about you, but I'm only 26 years old. Ummm...yea that's young. Seriously, I have (God forbid anything happens) a good 60 years of my life left. Now I understand that 60 years isn't technically that long, and that bearing children should be factored into this equation and my child bearing years will come to an end eventually. But what is the rush? Why is everyone in such a rush to get married and have children? Of course I want to get married and of course I want to have children. Right this instance, no, next year, maybe. How would I know that? Seriously I may wake up tomorrow and say to myself, now or never. I find that highly unlikely, but I could. Or I could wake up and say to myself, in two years. I dunno, its possible. But is it absolutely necessary for me to know exactly when/where/why/how I'm getting married right now? Now this isn't to knock those people who already are married and/or have children. Some of my best friends have the most amazing relationships with their husbands and they are only 26 - 30 years old. And their kids, don't even get me started on their kids, so freakin' cute!! But that doesn't mean its time for me. I commend all of you. I think it’s amazing that so early in life you identified the person you were meant to be with. I just know that I have identified him and I'm not ready to slap that ring on, walk down the aisle, and call him my husband just yet. Nor am I ready to ask the same of him (I'm pretty sure he would have cardiac arrest right then and there). So cut me some slack eh, no more questions about the marriage factor....I'll get to it, I promise, just not yet...just not yet!
